About Eamonn If someone told you that knowing lyrics of a song could change your life- you wouldn’t believe them- would you?...
Well, that is exactly what changed the life of Eamonn McCrystal,
Eamonn was born and raised in Cookstown, Co. Tyrone, Ireland. He is the youngest of 5 children and from an early age he was fascinated with music. His gift of music was brought to the fore by his mentor, a remarkable lady, Colette Dinsmore. She instilled Eamonn’s love for music and nurtured his amazing talent for singing and music by introducing him to the Flute and Piano both instruments he is very gifted with.
Eamonn’s biggest fan is his father, Jim. His encouragement, love and support gave Eamonn the confidence to share his gift with the world. He says “My mother is very important to me, she is the one who brings me back to earth after I get overwhelmed by some show I have performed on or CD I’ve recorded – you know- she would say things like ‘that’s great Eamonn, now have you tidied your room?”
There has always been an eclectic mix of music in the McCrystal house hold, “Well, my father was a lover of Leonard Cohen, The Beatles and The Beach Boys, my mother loved Diana Ross and Barbra Streisand, Then my brother was more into Irish rock music, with my eldest sister loving Brian Adams and Meatloaf, the middle one loving Destiny’s Child with my other sister anything from Jewel and Snow Patrol to Irish band Ash… so music was always different and ever-changing!”
In 1998 Eamonn recorded his first single “In the Quiet” which led to the first album “After the Storm”, then in 2000 he recorded “The Search” and early 2007 saw the release of the Special Edition of “Rest of Your Soul” on the Veritas label. In March 2007 Eamonn’s version of the Brendan Graham song “You Raise Me Up” was voted number 4 in the world by a Chinese magazine, rating higher than Josh Groban and Brian Kennedy.
“Eamonn McCrystal On Tour” exceeded all forecasts and expectations, not only did all venues receive SOLD OUT status, but the show itself was “out of this world” with a superb 15 piece band, amazing dancers and fantastic sets and costumes. The CD of that show, “Eamonn McCrystal LIVE” was recorded completely live from the Market Place Theatre in Armagh, it is available online from iTunes and from our store.
2008/09 saw Eamonn reside in London, where he enjoyed a close relationship with major media corporations including the BBC, Sky (BSKYB), ITV London, Endemol, SYCO and the UTV Group. Eamonn has hosted some top entertainment Television shows on these networks including “E” and “Live at 10”. On radio Eamonn was the creator and Station Manager of SMUC Radio and presented programmes such as the award winning “Current Affairs Show” and “Good Morning London”. The past few years have been clearly very busy for Eamonn and he continues to enjoy a hectic schedule, he has supported artists like Elkie Brooks, Phil Coulter, Cara Dillon, Ralph McTell, Brian Kennedy, the Celtic Tenors, the Irish Sopranos, and Westlife to name a few. Not only has he performed with these people, and indeed in his own right, in the UK and Ireland but also throughout Europe, and notably in the Vatican State for the passing of Pope John Paul II.
In 2009 he was working for a television company in London. While on vacation at home in Northern Ireland he worked as a stage manager at UTV Country Fest in Belfast. Randy Travis headlined the festival, where he met Eamonn and actually became Randy and Elizabeth Travis’s driver for the remainder of the Ireland tour. Eamonn recalls getting lost in Dublin and handing Elizabeth (Randy’s manager and wife) a CD he recorded, “I didn’t expect her to listen to it- it was just to deflect from the fact I was lost!!”. Later that day Mrs Travis did listen to the CD and asked Eamonn to sing on the rest of the tour. Our Irish singer signed a management contract with Elizabeth Travis Management in the fall of 2009. “I am deeply honored that Elizabeth Travis is my manager, she is so passionate about my music, I am forever in her gratitude for taking a chance on me, her faith and inspiration is so encouraging- she is the best! ”
He has just recorded an amazing album, produced by Grammy Award Winning producer Kyle Lehning and Nashville’s finest musicians and songwriters. Keep checking the website for more details…
Eamonn currently is touring the USA with Randy Travis performing “If Its Gonna Rain” from the new project and “You Raise Me Up” which is going down very well with the American and Canadian audiences alike.
Eamonn’s music is very inspirational and has helped many people from across the world with bereavement, loss, depression, hurt and illness by his soothing voice and relaxing choice if music. He is a very modest person who, more often than not, plays down this remarkable achievement.
…that song was Danny Boy.
